Art abounds in NYC! The Whitney Museum launched a series of large-scale commissioned works at the site of the museum’s future building in the Meatpacking District. If you aren’t in New York, catch the action in this video. It illustrates the creation and installation of the Guyton\Walker project, the first of three commissioned works.

If you will be in New York this summer and are looking for a quick day trip, take an excursion to Kykuit in Westchester County. Kykuit, also known as the J.D. Rockefeller Estate, is a must see for any art and design enthusiast. The 40-room house harbors a notable selection of 20th century artworks by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Louise Nevelson, and David Smith.

Here’s another new design shop in NYC! Strawser & Smith, a new furniture store in a loft-like space in Brooklyn, has size on its side! The shop is large enough to display huge furniture pieces by Cleveland Art, a company that salvages old factory and machine parts to make furniture.

In preparation for Earth Day tomorrow, here’s an idea to make your morning java a bit more environmentally-friendly. This porcelain cup with a silicon lid and sleeve is a fun twist on your everyday, to-go cup. These cups will look very stylish in a contemporary kitchen, but my favorite thing about them is that they are dishwasher and microwave safe.

Last week I shared bookshelf inspiration. Now, here’s a suggestion as to what to keep in your home library. Penguin Classics launched a very stylish series of hardback books with fabulously designed covers. Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Jane Austen’s Emma, and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island are just a few of the titles bound in these handsome hardbacks.
